National Taco Day is October 4th, and while you never need another reason to eat tacos, a holiday is as good as any. We’ve compiled a list of SF tacos you can’t miss out on, as well as the Taco Tuesday deals on those SF tacos, when applicable.

1. Tacolicious

Multiple Locations

With an emphasis on quality, the tacos here are tasty and made with love. Try the carnitas, carne asada or fish, or if you’re adventurous and with friends, get ten and try them all.

Taco Tuesday Special: $15 for 6 crispy shell tacos and $29 pitcher of margaritas.

2. Bullitt

2209 Polk St.

This Polk street spot gets super busy on weekends, but you’d be crazy to miss their taco Tuesday. They offer $1 tacos and two for one margaritas at $14 (a single one is $12). The fish tacos are borderline life changing they’re so good.

Taco Tuesday Special: $1 tacos and two for one margs.

3. Lolo

974 Valencia St.

Three words for you: panko avocado taco. As if avocado couldn’t get better, these geniuses decided to get it all crispy for even more deliciousness. Their fish tacos are also bomb AF. No Taco Tuesday specials here, but there’s an agave bar you don’t want to miss, and they do brunch. And is there really anything that can scream “SF taco” more than avocado?

4. Nopalito

306 Broderick St. and 1224 9th Ave.

An extensive and inventive drink menu accompanies some of the best carnitas tacos in town here. Try the seasonal sangria or the classic margarita to wash down any of the tacos, but we’re strongly suggesting those tacos are carnitas.

5. Nick’s Crispy Tacos

1500 Broadway at Polk St.

Don’t let the fact that this place is part night club, part taco joint deter you. The tacos here are tasty, and you get to choose your fixins as they’re being made. Aim to go earlier in the night on a weekend to avoid the club crowd, or just show up on Taco Tuesday for those deals.

Taco Tuesday Special: 2 for $7 coronas, $2 small chips with salsa and guac, and 2 for $7 soft tacos.

6. Padrecito

901 Cole St.

A pleasant surprise in Cole Valley, this local and sustainably focused Mexican restaurant boasts inventive meats like goat and duck in taco form, and they serve up a solid margarita. Don’t miss out on the chips and guac, they’re worth shelling out extra dough for.

7. Taqueria Vallerta

3033 24th Street.

If that line at La Taqueria or El Farrolito is just a little too long, this is your spot. Equally as good in taste, quality, and price, you can’t lose when you get the tacos al pastor here with a side of the smashed elote.

8. Garaje

475 3rd St.

Is there anything this cash only spot can’t do? It’s a feat to have one of the best burgers in town, but to ALSO have bomb tacos? Unheard of. But Garaje is out here killing the game nonetheless. Your taco is going to come with one crispy shell and one soft shell inside that crispy shell, choose any meat, and then top as you wish.

9. Taqueria Cancun

2288 Mission St.

The atmosphere isn’t this place’s strong suit, but the tacos nail the meat to tortilla ratio and the carnitas is tasty enough to allow for the dim lighting, just take your instagram shot outside if you must.

10. Don Pisto’s

510 Union St.

These tacos are simple, no nonsense, and tasty AF. You won’t find sides or handmade tortillas, but these bitty babies are full of so much flavor and texture you won’t mind. Plus, if you have room, the rest of the menu here is equally as enticing, especially that hamburguesa…

11. El Tonayense Taco Truck

Multiple Trucks throughout SF

Food trucks are taking over the food scene, and with tacos as good as these, we ain’t mad about it. These can be described as moy autentico, and moy barato, in the best way possible.

12. La Taqueria

2889 Mission St.

We couldn’t end this list without a shout out to the line inducing OG, with tacos worth that wait. And here, you only need one taco to get full. They come piled up with pinto beans, cheese, meat, and a tight wrapped tortilla to keep everything in check.
