It would take more than a year to eat all of the best NYC tacos, so here’s a guide of our best bets for your taco checklist.
1. Los Tacos #1
75 9th Ave.
This place made it on the list for best spots to spend your cheat day, so you know it’s tasty and indulgent AF. And trust us, the long line is way worth the wait. NYC tacos for the win.
2. Taco Mix
234 E 116th St #1
Dinner and a show are what you’re getting here. The al pastor is done on a giant spit that passerbys can’t miss, and it tastes even better than it looks. The thrill of watching your meat get shaved into a glorious taco is intense, because NYC tacos do it best.
320 Amsterdam Ave.
I’m from California, so trust that I take my fish tacos very seriously. And trust me when I say this place serves up some of the best dang fish tacos in town. If you close your eyes it’s ALMOST like you’re beach side in California enjoying that tempura Mahi Mahi taco.
4324 4th Ave.
Large portions, fast service, and tacos that are legitimately filling make this a can’t miss taco joint. Add in food that is a perfect blend of spicy, cheesy, and darn right tasty and you are going to be hunting down these NYC tacos in truck form, or stopping into the restaurant and staying for a while.
104-05 47th Ave.
Producing tortillas that many other Mexican spots use, you’d be remiss if you didn’t get the al pastor tacos here, done perfectly and topped with pineapple to pull out those smoky sweet flavors. Add in solid veggie options and the fact that the tacos are under $4 and you’ve got a winner winner, chicken taco dinner.
6. Otto’s Tacos
It is very tricky to make a tasty vegetarian taco, but Otto’s does just that here. Stewed and flavored mushrooms provide a steak like base to these tacos. The guac is extra, but that’s ok, because so am I. Don’t skip the guac.
35 E 21st St.
Duck and tacos? If it tastes this good to be wrong, I don’t want to be right. This upscale, small plate centric spot turns out stellar duck carnitas, and they’re so good you might struggle going back to the traditional pork carnitas.
695 10th Ave.
Ok, so you can’t pronounce the name ten times fast, but that doesn’t matter once you bite into the carnitas tacos at this bodega. The teeny tortillas make these tacos tot friendly.
Fish tacos are done very well here, and the many locations of this place are always buzzing. Add in sangria, and a colorful interior for an all around enjoyable taco experience.
230 West 4th St.
Boujee meets taco in the form of a lobster taco that is so good it has led Zagat reviewers to literally dream about it. Why are you not already here?
11. Dorado Tacos
28 E 12th St.
People LOVE the baja fish tacos here, and with good reason. The space is small, and the service can be a tad slow, but the food is well worth waiting for. Check out the daily special for 3 tacos ranging in variety from shrimp to steak.
So there you have it, all the tacos you need to be nommin on come October 4th, or any other day of the year quite frankly. Enjoy your tacos and tequila responsibly.
